A natural history museum to open at UBC in early 2010.

UBC's rich biological collections will soon be housed in the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, a new public museum dedicated to enhancing the public's understanding and appreciation of biodiversity, and making the research conducted by the scientists of UBC's Biodiversity Research Centre more accessible to the public. The Museum and the Research Centre will be housed side-by-side in the new Beaty Biodiversity Centre building.

When the Museum opens its doors in early 2010, the public will be able to explore UBC's spectacular biological collections through a combination of Museum exhibits, discovery labs, educators' resources, and public presentations. More than 2 million specimens of plants, insects, fish, vertebrates, fungi, and fossils showcase BC's stunning natural history.

The Beaty Museum hopes to bring together scientists, researchers, and the public to foster education, innovation, and change. When we open, come visit us, to see what you can learn about biodiversity. To find out what we're up to right now, read our latest news.

The Biodiversity Research Centre is an academic unit composed of more than 50 internationally renowned scientists who are all dedicated to the study of biodiversity. Interdisciplinary working groups study the biological forces that produce and sustain biodiversity, as well as the forces that lead to extinction, and the local and global consequences of its loss. The new Beaty Biodiversity Centre building will become the home for both the Beaty Biodiversity Museum and the Biodiversity Research Centre. Biodiversity Research Centre
