  Daniel Mosquin is the UBC Botanical Garden’s Education and Technology Manager. He is a naturalist and photographer who frequently travels western North America to observe and photograph biodiversity. Since April of 2005, he has been the editor (and often the author and/or photographer) of UBC Botanical Garden’s Botany Photo of the Day. The education theme for March is Biodiversity and the North. Join Daniel for this travelogue and exploration of the biodiversity and landscapes of southern Alaska and Yukon.

Origin Turns 150
  It will be 150 years since the publication of On the Origin of Species on November 24, 2009. Join us for coffee at 9:30am in room 225 of the Beaty Biodiversity Centre. At 10:00am, we will join in a screening of an E.O. Wilson presentaion broadcast from Harvard University. At noon, bring your lunch to the lounge to eat with Darwin. Prizes will be awarded in our Drawing from Darwin contest, and we'll wrap things up with some festive desserts.

Boootiful Botany Haunted Hallowe'en Event 2009 - UBC Botanical Garden
  This exciting event organized by the UBC Botanical Garden will begin with a self-guided trick-or-treat scavenger hunt, where children and their families work together to find a number of spooky plants. At each stop they'll learn unusual facts about plants, while receiving Hallowe'en treats. Participants can then enjoy Hallowe'en crafts and games, and visit an on-site Hallowe'en exhibit by the Beaty Biodiversity Museum. Come in costume!

Get to Know:
  The Beaty Museum is a proud partner of Robert Bateman's Get to Know program, which encourages young people to learn about the organisms in the world around them to better protect them in the future. Participants under 19 years of age create artwork, write a short story, or submit a photograph for possible inclusion in an art calendar for the coming year. The 2009 contest starts April 22 and ends on May 27. For full details, visit the Get to Know contest webpage.
