• May 22, 10:00am-4:00pm, International Day for Biological Diversity
Thanks to everyone for coming. You can share your photos with us at our Flickr group, or view the archived webcast of our speakers:
• May 29, 10:00am-4:00pm, Alumni Weekend
• June 19, 11:00am-3:00pm, Heritage - Where we come from
• July 17, 11:00am-3:00pm, BC Biodiversity - Where we live
• Aug 21, 11:00am-3:00pm, Watery Worlds - Aquatic biodiversity
Each preview features a different theme, with unique programs and activities, so come back often. By collecting krill pins from at least three of the five preview days, you can earn a special blue whale button in the fall. Blue whale t-shirts and re-usable bags will also be on sale; bring cash.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase on site in the Niche Cafe, located on the south side of the Djavad Mowafaghian Atrium overlooking Fairview Grove. Preview days feature at least one meat and one vegetarian entree from the sample menu (PDF).
Directions: UBC is easy to get to on transit, and we're a short walk from the bus loops (see map at right and watch our video).
We have a passenger drop-off accessed from East Mall via Biological Sciences Road, the nearest parking is in Health Sciences Parkade (video directions from the parkade).

What are your regular hours? Can I visit on other days?
Unfortunately, no. We're busy putting together the rest of the museum for you and are not open regular hours. The blue whale is visible from outside the building, along with interpretive material about the whale. We look forward to seeing you on our remaining preview on August 21.
The Beaty Biodiversity Museum looks forward to opening its doors to the public later in 2010.
You can help us toward opening by becoming a volunteer. If you are enthusiastic about biodiversity, we can find a way for you to be involved, whatever your skill set. Volunteering is an opportunity to meet fascinating people and gain valuable experience. In particular, we are looking for:
Exhibits Volunteers: If you've ever been interested in seeing how a museum is put together, this could be your volunteer experience. We need help with various tasks, including mounting and trimming printed material, installing labels on museum cabinetry, and maintaining exhibits. You should be available to come in for a regular shift during the work week. Our shifts are from 9:00am-12:00pm or 1:00pm-4:00pm Monday to Friday beginning August 16, 2010. Email volunteers @beatymuseum.ubc.ca for more information.
Photographers: Do you have pictures of the biodiversity around you? We are looking for high-quality images to accompany our exhibits. We can use photos of all scales, from ecosystems to organisms to microscopic features. We have particular need of identified photos of fish in natural habitats and non-vascular plants.
Contact Derek Tan at derektan @interchange.ubc.ca
Museum Ambassadors: If you're passionate about biodiversity and eager to learn about the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, consider becoming a Museum Ambassador. These volunteers will represent us at events in the museum and inthe community, and will answer questions about the museum, its collections, and its programs. You should be able to attend training sessions and have access to transportation for special events.

If you have other skills or interests, we can work with you to find a satisfying volunteer opportunity. Just get in touch and tell us what you like to do. Please contact us at volunteers @beatymuseum.ubc.ca
